Key Responsibilities of a Medical Laboratory Technologist:
- Sample Collection and Handling: MLTs collect various types of biological samples such as blood, urine, tissue, and body fluids, and ensure proper labeling, storage, and transportation to maintain sample integrity.
- Laboratory Testing: They perform a wide range of tests using sophisticated instruments and technology. These tests can include blood tests, microbiology cultures, chemical analyses, immunology assays, and more.
- Data Analysis: MLTs interpret and analyze test results to identify normal and abnormal findings. They assess the accuracy, validity, and reliability of test data.
- Quality Control and Assurance: They participate in quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results. This involves monitoring and maintaining equipment, reagents, and procedures.
- Instrument Operation: MLTs operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and perform routine maintenance.
